Dear Friends,
“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” – Croons Andy Williams. Isn’t it really? The lovely New Year celebration preparations, fireworks, Christmas music, decorated streets, shops, homes, offices, Christmas and New Year parties, exchanging gifts, family times…… well it goes on. For all of us at Jetwing too, it means many things. Above all, it has been the busiest time of the year for the majority in our teams. All those associates in the Hotels, other than the Hotels on the East coast, the teams at Travels and all our suppliers have been on overdrive to provide the service levels Jetwing is synonymous with. We are hopeful that very soon, the East Coast will also be regarded as an year round destination, which it is and those in places like Passikudha, Trincomalee, Arugambay, Pottuvil etc will also be able to work at their full potential.
Although we have had a somewhat peculiar situation in the country on the political front, the Judiciary has settled and we did not see it impacting our visitor numbers greatly. We are thankful to those visitors who have assessed the situation correctly and have decided to go ahead with their travel plans as not a single tourist has been inconvenienced so far. We urge all others who have reservations about future travel plans, not to have any concerns as we will keep you updated if any developments occur that can impact the smooth operation of your holiday. Sri Lanka still remain the Best Country to travel in 2019 as per Lonely Planet and the Sri Lankans are as always the most hospitable as they can be.
We are proud to be named the “Number One in Top 10 Countries to visit in 2019” by Lonely Planet amongst other such accolades. Yes, we truly have a very compact, diverse and beautiful island waiting to be explored, with an offering to almost everyone. Sri Lanka also launched its new slogan, “So Sri Lanka” at the World Travel Market in London last month. So, it’s an exciting time for us and are hopeful the new campaigns that are being planned will position Sri Lanka and introduce it to more potential visitors.
Jetwing has many plans for 2019 and looking forward to sharing them with you in due course. I take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for being a friend of Jetwing and apologies if we have disappointed you in anyway during the year. We look forward to being of service to you in the New Year! Enjoy the holidays with your loved ones and experience the love, joy and peace this season is synonymous for!
Happy Holidays and a Joyous New Year from all of us at Jetwing!” |

A Slow Train To
Hill Country
|
I’m nearly 6,000ft up, a few miles along the line from Nanu Oya station. The doors are open and warm air scented from baskets of fresh pakoras blows through the carriage. A family, gathered around a harmonium, claps and sings traditional songs. Slowed by the gradient, the train click-clacks through the mountains, along contours and between slopes of pine, eucalyptus and flowering rhododendron… |
