Dear Friend,Our sincere hope that the recent natural disasters that took place in many parts of the world did not impact you or your loved ones. It sounds selfish, but we always hope that our friends and family are healthy and safe.
At the end of August, I had the privilege to travel to the East Coast with some colleagues from another organization I am involved in. It was such a pleasure to see the delightful coastline that was so picturesque ! We travelled through the centre of Sri Lanka and had lunch in an old country home in Balangoda. It had once belonged to the Grand parents of a former President of Sri Lanka. We were told a beautiful story of intrigue, love and successes made there. The current owner lets some rooms out and has a big banqueting area that can accommodate 2 separate weddings at one time. We then proceeded to Wellawaya, and yes, you guessed it right, spent the night at the gorgeous Jetwing Kaduruketha. The raw mango juice that greeted us surprised everyone as it was delicious and was more impressive as it had been just plucked from the lush mango trees on the property. We were woken the next day to the sounds of the chirping birds, including the magnificent peacock who also gave us the pleasure of a dance with its feathers spread in amazing splendor. This set against the Poonagala mountain range is a sight to behold indeed.
We then proceeded to Passikudha and settled in at Sunrise by Jetwing. The peak tourist season there was just finishing and the Hotels on the strip were hungry for guests. It is indeed a pity that visitors don’t go to that part of the country during the rest of the period, as the sea is so calm and inviting and you have the beaches all to yourself! Something you should think about when planning your next trip. The Batticaloa town was a hive of activity when we left it. This is an area where Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim communities live together.
At Jetwing Travels, we have been busy visiting our partners around the world and also welcoming many agents and journalists on familiarization tours to Sri Lanka. These are usual activities that take place before the season kicks in, in November and peaking in December. Shangri-La is adding the finishing touches to its property in Colombo as the plans are to open it asap. That will change the landscape of Colombo and also add another 600 rooms to its room inventory . This is the 3rd High-end property to open in the city together with Movenpick and Jetwing Colombo 7.

Situated in the East Coast of Sri Lanka, Gal Oya National park lies off-the –beaten-path and much less travelled by the average traveller to Sri Lanka. One of its key highlights is the Senanayaka Samudraya, which is the largest reservoir in Sri Lanka. An interesting wildlife event that can be observed here if you’re lucky is “The Elephant Crossing”, where the largest land based mammal (The elephant) can be seen actually swimming sometimes in groups from island to island. It is believed reduced water levels during the dry season makes many small islands with grass and other vegetation become more accessible and attractive to these elephants with July to December being the best time to try and observe this phenomenon and if you’re lucky you will actually be able to witness this as our Sri Lanka Tailor-Made Rangers have done on many occasions on a visit to Sri Lanka on your next holiday!Visit Sri Lanka with Sri Lanka Tailor-Made and we will ensure a truly personalized experience with many moments to cherish for years to come! |
