Ayubowan!
It seems as if we celebrated X’mas just the other day! Amazingly, another year is just about to end, how fast it went, is a refrain I hear from everyone. May be we have become busier or life has more things to offer us that 365 days just doesn’t seem to be enough to get through it all. Looking back, we, that is Sri Lanka as a country and Jetwing as an organization has had a good year, thanks to your support. Tourism is doing extremely well, and all indications are that we will surpass the one million tourist arrivals that was eluding us all this time this year. The positive thing about the arrivals this year is that our visitors are patronizing different categories of accommodation and visiting all parts of the Island. This means that the revenue from tourism is being distributed around the country and amongst many people.
The team at Jetwing are extremely thankful to you for your generous support. To all those who gave us the opportunity to show you around our beautiful Island home, to the others who recommended us to your friends and family, to our local customers who entrusted us to take them to far away places on their holidays we say a heartfelt THANK YOU! You have inspired us to strive harder to improve our services in the new year. We will look back and ensure that all the shortcomings we had in the past are addressed to ensure an even higher level of service next year.
The peak travel season has just begun and we are looking forward to a busy time. The Whale watching season in the South Coast has begun with a splash and many sightings are reported daily. The Gathering (elephants) at Minneriya is another sight to behold and the Adam’s peak season will commence in December. Most Hotels are expecting to have full occupancy in the next few months.
Although Sri Lanka is a predominantly Buddhist country, X’mas is a time that is enjoyed by all. Shops are full of items on sale, Hotels are extravagantly decorated and full of goodies, the roads are lit and the air is “merry”. It is certainly an ideal time to come on holiday and have a tropical X’mas. The New Year celebrations in Sri Lanka is legendary. We Sri Lankans love having a good time and it seems that we take it to extremes when it comes to the year end.
On behalf of all of us at Jetwing, let me take this opportunity to wish you all the best for the season and talk to you again in the New Year!
With Renewed thanks, sincere appreciation and fondest wishes,

Its blow is a slender vertical column of spray rising to 30 feet in height, comparable to a three storey building, its heart the size of a small car. Weighing in at over 100 tons with its body spanning over 30m in length, the Blue Whale is the largest creature to have ever lived. Mirissa in Southern Sri Lanka ranks at the world’s top spot for watching Blue Whales, with sightings occurring on almost a daily basis between the months of November through to April each season. Unlike in other parts of the world, where one has to travel far out to sea to locate Blue Whales, the close proximity of the continental shelf to Mirissa enables half-day excursions to sea where the Blues can be seen just a few nautical miles out from the land.
During such outings from Mirissa, pods of acrobatic and highly sociable Spinner Dolphins sometimes numbering in their hundreds are seen on most mornings and migrating Sperm Whales too are a possibility. Since commercial whale watching began in Mirissa in April 2008, its popularity has soared and ‘The Blue Whale story’ has emerged as one of the biggest and most positive stories for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry in recent years. Tourists, journalists, wildlife photographers and film crews from all corners of the globe flock to Mirissa in ever increasing numbers each year for the whale watching.
